Motivation & Discipline in learning Vietnamese

1. Motivation
I have been teaching both Vietnamese and Japanese, and I saw that, when learners start learning Vietnamese or Japanese, they often feel very excited. They have strong motivation. They want to learn fast, speak quickly, and understand everything. This is a great beginning.
However, after some time, many learners start to feel tired. Their energy goes down, and their motivation becomes weaker. This is very normal. Learning a language takes time, and it is not always fun or easy. Because of this, some students begin to study less often, and some even stop completely.

As a teacher, I see this very often. No matter how much a teacher tries to motivate students, it is not enough if learners do not have their own personal reason to study. Without a clear goal or purpose, it is very difficult to continue learning in the long term.

2. Discipline
This is where discipline becomes very important.Discipline means having a plan, setting goals, and studying regularly, even when we don’t feel motivated. The truth is, no one feels motivated all the time. There will be days when we feel lazy or tired. That is completely normal.

I understand this very well from my own experience. I have also struggled with motivation and discipline. For example, when I try to exercise, I notice that if I do a little every day, I can continue for a long time. But if I skip just one or two days, it becomes very easy to stop completely. At the beginning, I also feel excited and highly motivated. I want to do my best and keep going. But later, that feeling becomes weaker. Because of this, I truly understand how my students feel, and I deeply empathize with their experience.

On days when we don’t feel motivated, discipline helps us continue. Instead of stopping, you study a little. Instead of skipping many lessons, you keep your routine.

In the end, both motivation and discipline are important. Motivation helps we start. It gives us excitement and energy. But discipline helps us continue. It keeps us moving forward, even on difficult days.
If you want to learn Vietnamese effectively, try to combine both. Find your clear goals to learn, and build a simple, consistent study habit. That is the key for good long-term learning in Vietnamese.

For me,  I’ve been exercising every day, and it really shows me how important discipline is! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡
